Pool Design Ideas For The Perfect Backyard

There are several ways you can design a pool to be uniquely yours

No matter where you are searching for homes it is always an exciting bonus if the home has a pool. It is one of those things that definitely sweetens the deal when you find the perfect home. Nowadays with everybody appreciating what home has to offer even more, having a pool tends to add even more value where you may want to add one yourself. Here are some tips for adding a pool to your home and building the yard of your dreams.

Pool Size

Every home has a different shape and size but the great thing is pools can too! It doesn’t matter if your yard is big and square or small and narrow as a pool can be designed to fit any kind. A more popular style these days for smaller pools is to build a pool/spa combination. This is basically a pool that you can also use just like a hot tub. With these being smaller you can also heat them up for much less of a cost than your larger pools. Whichever size you pick, a good benchmark is to have your pool no bigger than 1/3rd of your whole yard size.

Pool Shape

Your yard may dictate what shape is best or possible. For many years kidney shaped pools were very common with more rectangle or L-shaped modern shapes trending more as of late. Ultimately it is your choice of preference for what fits best with your yard shape and home style.

Depth of Pool

When deciding the depth you will need to figure out what the function of the pool will be.  Is it just for just lounging in? Will there be smaller children in it? Or do you wish to dive in? Experts say water sports and play pools should be about 4 feet deep while if you have smaller children then having a shallow end of 2 or 3.5 feet will give you a wading and lounge zone. If diving is what you desire then it is recommended you have a minimum of 8 feet for safety.

Additional Features

Once you have the basics locked down then thinking about the features can be fun. Waterfalls and deck jets have been around for years and were common features for years. In recent years sun decks have become more popular providing a shelf area that is shallow offering a great option for sitting in a chair to enjoy the sun and a drink or for young children. Your pets will love these too if they are permitted!

Pool Decking and Surround

Once you have decided on designs and features for the actual pool itself, then you do have to figure out the surrounding area. Pavers or a travertine type tile materials are very nice and can have a higher end look than simple concrete styles. You will want something that is not slippery and stays cool in the sun. Next you will want to pick out your furniture options. Having a mix of lounge chairs and a nearby table with chairs for your pool party afternoons is a great combo. Finally, if you don’t have much shade in the yard then large umbrellas are a great solution as they can be mobile too!
