About Boston’s Beacon Hill Neighborhood
The historic neighborhood of Beacon Hill is well known for being one of the most expensive districts in the state. Originally, the area was named after the location of a former beacon, which sat atop the highest point in central Boston. Although this landmark was originally used for warning residents of invasion, it now serves as an archival piece of history.
Beacon Hill is composed of brick rowhouses and is renowned for its narrow, gas lit streets and gorgeous brick sidewalks. Quaint Charles Street runs through the flat of the hill and is lined with mom and pop owned restaurants, shops and cafes. The ideal location lies between the Boston Common and borders the Esplanade on the Charles River where recreational activity is at your fingertips.
